"Geometry of dynamical systems: methods to reveal the skeleton of the attractor "

We will provide an overview of various methods used to explore the skeleton of the attractor of a dynamical system, in particular its fixed points, periodic orbits and the associated stable/unstable manifolds. These invariant structures of the dynamics guide a chaotic trajectory as it wanders around the state space in a walk through a repertoire of recurrent patterns. As applications, we will consider the dynamics of oceanic rogue waves  and fluid turbulence in pipe flows.

Le date previste sono le seguenti:
Venerdì 20 Luglio  ore 11 sala Videoconferenze
Lunedì   23 Luglio  ore 11 Aula 32
Martedì 24 Luglio ore 11 sala Videoconferenze
Dr. Francesco Fedele is an Associate Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering and in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. He received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont in 2004 and earned his Laurea (magna cum laude) in Civil Engineering from the University Mediterranea, Italy, in 1998. Dr. Fedele joined the faculty at Georgia Tech in 2007 after a postdoctoral research position at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. His current research focus is on nonlinear wave phenomena, coastal and ocean engineering, fluid mechanics, wave mechanics, sustainable ocean energy, signal processing and computer vision, computational methods and inverse problems.
